River Rats Adventure Racing was originally formed as a group of canoe racers looking to try Adventure Racing. With only 1 member of our team with any Adventure Racing experience we were in for an eye opening experience. While most teams today start by competing in Sprint races and working there way up to the longer events we decided to work that theory backwards.  Our first race was a 36 hour event that we made it about half way through before fatigue, injury and sickness sidelined us. Having not completed this race we all felt the need to redeem ourselves and found another 36 hour race that would take place 2 months later. The inaugural “Bush Bash” would become our team’s first victory and formed the foundation for us in a new sport that we have all embraced over the past few years.  With our experiences in racing and our love of the sport we decided to bring Adventure Racing to Northern Michigan.  In the spring of 2003 we decided that we knew enough about Adventure Racing that we could successfully host an event and started planning for our first Race to be held in September of that same year. We learned a lot from that first race and had such a good time that for 2004 we expanded to 2 events and started to form a friendship/partnership with Infiterra Sports. For 2005 you will see some exciting things including the inclusion of our River Rats races into the Michelob Ultra Point series along with Infiterra Sports. We started as racers and continue to be racers but we like to think that we take what we learn from racing and use it to Host the most challenging and fun events possible.
